It's said food works within in a chain
And at the top is where humans reign
What we lack in strength we make up in brain
Hunting, gathering, planting fruit and grain

But in the end what we consume is destroyed
Be it leaf or meat, it enters into the void
No matter how hard you try, you can not avoid
The circle of life that nature always employs

When we consume plants, we take from herbivores
Not quite guilt free as we had assumed before
Some pretend indirect killing is to be adored
Habitat destruction, pesticides, and more

Some of us are trapped in complex morality
Even going as far as sacrificing vitality
For what they belive is negating the lethlity
Of life on earth to establish commonality

To those I ask, truly consider mother nature
Setting aside the bullet points and nomenclature
If push came to shove, there's a lot I'd wager
Taking a life to survive would be the choice favored

So we musn't forget what we are simply cogs
Turning this circle of life right along
Our place in this world is complicated and fogged
Searching for salvation in the great great beyond
